Quick answer: When buying accessories for a used or second-hand car, prioritize a replacement key cover (since you don't know the wear history of the existing key), a thorough interior refresh (perfume, seat covers if needed), and a body cover if the car will be parked outdoors — items that address the unknowns of a pre-owned vehicle.
Priority Checklist for Used Car Buyers
- Key cover: The previous owner's key may already show wear; a new cover protects it going forward.
- Car perfume: Helps refresh the cabin and remove any lingering odors from the previous owner.
- Body cover: Especially useful if you don't know the car's prior parking/storage conditions and want to protect the paint going forward.
- Neck rest pillow: An easy comfort upgrade regardless of the car's age or condition.
Additional Considerations
Confirm your exact make, model, and key type (some used cars may have older key fob designs) before ordering model-specific accessories like key covers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I get a spare key made for a used car?
It's a good idea if you only received one key with the purchase, since losing your only key is far more costly and inconvenient.
Do older used cars need different key covers than new ones?
Possibly — older model years may use a different key fob shape than the current generation, so verify against your specific key before ordering.
Is a body cover necessary for a used car in good condition?
It's optional but helpful for preserving the paint condition, especially if you don't have covered parking.
